Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi said this included replacing the anti-corrosion system as well as the tiles in the diving and swimming pools to ensure the safety of swimmers.
He said the upgrades would restore public confidence in the quality and reliability of sports facilities in the state, reported Bernama.
“God willing, continuous efforts will be made to ensure that all facilities in the state are in the best possible condition for the well-being of the Johor community. May everything proceed smoothly,” he said in a Facebook post.
The upgrades to the aquatic centre cost RM1.3 million.
Last month, it was reported that 19 students, who were participants of an aquatic competition organised by the Johor School Sports Council, were sent to the hospital after experiencing vomiting, fever and skin irritation after using the facility.
The lab report from the chemistry department revealed that water samples taken from the aquatic centre in Larkin showed the presence of Escherichia coli bacteria, better known as E coli.
