PETALING JAYA:
The human resources ministry has abolished its foreign workers management division (BPPA) and transferred its functions to the home ministry.

In a Facebook post last Friday, the ministry said the move would come into effect from Aug 1.

BPPA manages the one-stop centre which reviews and approves foreign worker quotas and recruitment through the Foreign Workers Centralised Management System (FWCMS).

Its functions were previously carried out by the home ministry until 2022.

Last month, home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the government would review its use of two separate foreign worker management systems which the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) had found to have overlapping functions.

PAC, in its parliamentary report, revealed the agencies had overlapping functions in managing foreign workers and this had caused a wastage of public funds.

It is uncertain whether the move to place BPPA back under the home ministry is related to the PAC report.

FMT has reached out to an aide to human resources minister Steven Sim for comment.
