The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in Melaka has arrested four people, including a director and deputy director of a government department, in a probe into false claims.

According to Berita Harian, the two male officers, aged 50 and 49, were arrested along with two individuals – a 62-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman – at MACC’s office in Melaka at 5pm yesterday after they were summoned to provide statements to the anti-graft agency.

The Malay daily cited a source from the MACC as saying the case involved the approval of false claims for government contracts worth RM176,000.

High Court registrar Rafidah Che Aziz has granted an order for the three male suspects to be remanded for three days, starting today, and the female suspect for one day.

The four were brought to the Ayer Keroh court complex at about 9am today.
