Olympic gold hopes renewed as Shah Firdaus enters final

He finished third in the semi-final heat after Japan’s Kaiya Ota was relegated following a review.

National track cyclist Shah Firdaus Sahrom has kept Malaysia’s gold medal hopes alive in the Paris Olympics when he qualified for the final by placing third in the semi-final of the men’s keirin event at the Paris Olympics.

His third-placing in the heat came after Japan’s Kaiya Ota was relegated after a review. Australia’s Matthew Richardson won the heat, with the Netherlands rider Harrie Lavreysen coming in second.

Others who qualified for the final were Jack Carlin (Great Britain), Matthew Glaetzer (Australia) and Shinji Nakano (Japan) who finished top of heat 1.
