PETALING JAYA:
A former minister said there is a need to evaluate the country’s education system in terms of fostering social integration.

In a Facebook post, Salleh Said Keruak said there was a need for the education system to promote understanding and tolerance of cultural and religious practices.

Concerted effort is needed to build trust as well as acceptance between different races and religions at an early stage to ensure peaceful coexistence.

“Hence, we may have to evaluate as to whether the current structure of the education system is the most suitable platform to promote social integration, as well as understanding and tolerance of cultural and religious practices.”

He was commenting on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s remarks related to race and religion, where he called on political leaders to refrain from divisive behaviour.

Salleh, who was the communications and multimedia minister from 2015 to 2018, said Anwar’s aspirations must be translated into action.

Last night, Salleh hailed Anwar’s push to prevent racial and religious issues from being manipulated for political gain.

Salleh, a former chief minister, also said he was confident that Anwar’s political philosophy was different from that of previous prime ministers.
