PETALING JAYA:
Malaysians living in the UK or travelling there have been advised to stay away from areas affected by protests sparked by a stabbing incident.

The foreign ministry said it is closely monitoring the protests and strongly encouraged Malaysians who have not registered with the Malaysian high commission in London to do so immediately to ensure they receive timely information and assistance.

Violent protests involving anti-immigration groups have broken out in towns and cities across the UK after three girls were killed in a knife attack in Southport, England, last week.

Unrest was reported in Liverpool, Bristol, Hull, Manchester and Belfast.

The murders were seized upon by anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim groups as misinformation spread that the suspect was a radical Islamist migrant, Reuters reported.
