PETALING JAYA:
Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor says he is “leaving it to Allah” to bring rain and restore water levels at three dams in Kedah.

He said this when asked about the drop in water levels and the impact on agricultural activities in the state, Bernama reported.

“Wait for Allah to bring rain. We humans can’t make rain ourselves, pray to Allah (for) rain. Allah will command the angels to bring rain.

“A human solution to God’s work? There is none. Humans can’t do it, so we will wait for God to bring rain,” he was quoted as saying while campaigning in Renok, Kelantan.

Also present was Perikatan Nasional’s Rizwadi Ismail, who will be facing Barisan Nasional’s Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani in the Nenggiri by-election on Aug 17.

According to reports, the water level at the Muda dam on Thursday was 8%, while Pedu dam stood at 39.09%, and Ahning dam at 81.8%.

Sanusi said the drop in the water levels would not affect agricultural activities.

“The Muda Agricultural Development Authority’s rivers are full now as water has been released from the padi fields,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kedah Umno chairman Mahdzir Khalid urged Sanusi to be more proactive in managing water supply issues and the drop in the dams’ water levels.

Mahdzir said the menteri besar should have prepared a contingency plan.

“What should the state government do if the condition worsens? There must be short-term and long-term plans for water supply,” he said while meeting voters in Bertam Lama with Azmawi.
