Amirudin also said teams with up to five members for events such as squash, tennis, badminton and sepak takraw will receive RM5,000 a person for a gold medal victory.
“For larger teams in events like rugby, basketball, football, hockey and so on, we will offer a reward of RM3,000 a person,” he said during the Selangor contingent’s flag handover ceremony for Sukma 2024 today.
Previously, the incentive for a gold medal was RM3,500 for individual athletes, RM2,500 a person for teams with fewer than five members, and RM1,500 a person for teams with more than five members.
Sukma 2024 will be held across Sarawak’s nine divisions from Aug 17 to 24.
Selangor is aiming for 61 gold medals, seeking to improve on its previous fourth-place finish where it secured 32 gold, 54 silver and 45 bronze medals.
Sukma 2024 will feature 37 sports, encompassing 488 events, and will see the participation of 12,619 athletes and officials.
This marks the third time that Sarawak is hosting the games, following the 1990 and 2016 editions.
Amirudin said the Selangor contingent has the drive and instinct to excel in this year’s games.
“I believe we now have the perfect recipe to become champions. This is the contingent I want to see on the victory podium,” he said.
