PETALING JAYA:
National broadcaster Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) has denied failing to air a recent match between singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia and Spain’s Pablo Abian at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In a statement, it said the match was aired on TV Okey on July 31 from 8.50pm to 9.30pm.

“RTM will broadcast the Olympics live through two main channels, the Okey Channel and Sports Channel, and six special channels on RTMKlik,” it said.

RTM is the official broadcaster of the Paris Olympic Games, providing 17 days of continuous free coverage.

A Facebook user had expressed dissatisfaction that it did not air Zii Jia’s match but instead broadcast the match between Israel’s Misha Zilberman and Nepalese shuttler Prince Dahal.

Suhaimi Sulaiman, RTM’s director-general of broadcasting, said the Israel-Nepal match had been accidentally aired for less than five minutes.

“However, RTM took immediate action and switched the telecast to a handball match,” he said.
