Umno’s Mahkota assemblyman Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain has died. She was 63.

Johor state assembly speaker Puad Zarkashi confirmed her passing in a Facebook post.

“May her soul rest in peace,” said Puad, who is also the Rengit assemblyman.

On Wednesday, it was reported that Sharifah was in critical condition and receiving treatment for internal bleeding.

She was being treated at Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Kluang.

Sharifah won the Mahkota state seat in the 2022 Johor election. She previously served as Penawar assemblyman from 2018 to 2022.

She was also head of the Kluang Umno women’s wing.

Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi conveyed his condolences to Sharifah’s family, describing her as a leader who was approachable and beloved by the people.

“Her contributions and service to the people of Johor, especially in the Mahkota constituency, will not be forgotten,” the state Umno chief added.
