PETALING JAYA:
Three policemen were arrested today on suspicion of committing armed robbery in Semenyih, Selangor, yesterday.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said two suspects, aged 32 and 35, were arrested at the General Operations Force’s base in Cheras at 12.20am during an operation.

“The duo will be remanded until Aug 7,” he said in a statement.

Another suspect, 24, surrendered himself at the Kajang police headquarters at 1pm today. Police will apply for a remand order for him tomorrow.

The suspects are being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which deals with the discharge of a firearm in the commission of an offence.

If convicted, they could face the death penalty or 30 to 40 years in prison and 12 strokes of the rotan.

Hussein maintained police would not protect any senior officer or rank-and-file who committed crimes.

Earlier, an alleged internal report of the incident was leaked on social media, stating that the suspects robbed a 50-year-old foreigner at a house in Kampung Pasir, Semenyih, on July 31.

The victim allegedly suffered RM35,000 in losses.
