IPOH:
A total of 12 cases of heat-related illnesses have been reported in Perak in the first seven months of the year, says state human resources, health, Indian community affairs, and national integration committee chairman A Sivanesan.

He said out of the total, four cases were of heatstroke, one of them resulting in death, and the other eight cases were of heat exhaustion.

Sivanesan said the cases were recorded in the districts of Kinta, Batang Padang, Hulu Perak and Larut, Matang and Selama.

“A policeman from the Ulu Kinta General Operations Force reportedly died of heatstroke while participating in a cross-country activity on May 30,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Sivanesan said eight deaths due to complications from dengue fever were also recorded during the first seven months of this year, compared with only one death in the same period last year.

He said the cumulative number of dengue fever cases reported up to the 30th epidemiological week this year was 5,058, compared with 1,975 recorded in the same period last year.

Sivanesan said the figure showed an increase of 156.1%, or 3,083 cases.

“Among the districts with the highest number of dengue cases are Kinta; Larut, Matang and Selama; Kuala Kangsar, Hulu Perak, and Manjung,” he said.
