PETALING JAYA:
The father of a 12-year-old boy filmed driving a car with two younger children in Taman Putra Impiana, Puchong, has given his statement to the police.

Sepang police chief Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said the 35-year-old man arrived at the Sepang district police station at around 11.30pm yesterday to have his statement recorded, Sinar Harian reported.

“The father, who is the owner of the car, was identified by the police,” he was quoted as saying in a statement.

“He came forward to the traffic investigation and enforcement division of the Sepang district police station regarding the incident.”

Wan Kamarul said initial investigations found that the 12-year-old boy had taken his two younger brothers, aged four and six, for a drive in a Perodua Viva around the residential area at about 8pm last Sunday.

The case is being investigated under Section 39(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

A video showing a member of the public stopping the Perodua Viva driven by the teenager had earlier gone viral.

In the video, the car could be seen going over a speed bump before the woman recording the video told the teen to stop.

The woman then asked the boy his age and said she would lodge a police report.
