PETALING JAYA:
Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Aminuddin Harun plans to meet the state leaders of Melaka and Johor to discuss a proposed southern gateway economic corridor raised by Melaka chief minister Ab Rauf Yusof three days ago.

Aminuddin said today “we have discussed the matter, but not in detail”. He added that a meeting among the three states would be held to discuss the matter further, Bernama reported.

When Rauf raised the proposal for the southern economic corridor on Thursday, he said the discussions might also involve talks on a west coast highway connecting Banting in Selangor to Gelang Patah in Johor.

“We believe this expressway could help reduce congestion on the North-South Expressway, which is often crowded during festive seasons or weekends,” he said.

He said a steering committee would be formed to facilitate negotiations with the three state governments to establish the proposed economic growth corridor, the New Straits Times reported.

The committee will conduct a detailed study on the proposed development before presenting the proposal to the federal government.

“Given that these three states are contiguous, a development corridor that provides mutual benefits to the states and their people must be created,” he was reported as saying.

“We plan to organise a seminar on the economic corridor inviting the governments of both neighbouring states, led by their respective chief ministers,” he said.
