After raising money by running 200km to Parliament House, the Muar MP calls for release of government constituency allocations.

Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman raised RM180,000 last month by running from Muar to Parliament House in Kuala Lumpur.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has revealed that RM20,000 of the RM180,000 he raised in a charity run has gone on providing up to 200 food baskets for his constituents.

He also purchased electric scooters for the disabled from the money raised in June by completing a 200km run from Muar to Parliament House.

The run was carried out in protest against the lack of constituency allocations from the government. He hoped Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim would channel the promised RM4 million in annual allocations to MPs.

Syed Saddiq said he would do anything to raise funds to manage his service centre in Muar for the wellbeing of his constituents.

“Not just a run. Prior to this, I had raised funds through a ‘botak’ challenge and by selling kurtas,” he said at a press conference.

In 2021, he raised RM407,000 after pledging to shave his head bald if he met a target of RM200,000 to buy laptop computers for poor families.

“If anyone has any more suggestions (on ways to raise funds), I would do it for the people of Muar,” he said.
