According to its annual report on terrorism, released today, terrorist elements have exploited the conflict to extend their agenda, also labelling Singapore as “pro-Israel” on social media, reported The Straits Times.
The department said it was maintaining high vigilance despite no indication of an imminent threat to Singapore, taking into account terrorist attacks previously planned and conducted by transnational terrorist groups in the nation.
ISD also reported disgruntlement among regional extremists with Singapore’s involvement in Operation Prosperity Guardian, an international maritime force formed to respond to Yemeni Houthi rebel attacks in the Red Sea.
It said there had been calls on social media for Singapore to be destroyed with bombs and rockets.
ISD said self-radicalisation is the primary threat, with 52 people, including 13 Singaporeans aged 20 and younger, arrested under the Internal Security Act since 2015.
