In a statement, Maybank said its customers’ online transactions continue to be protected through various fraud countermeasures such as the use of Secure2U to authenticate transactions and a cooling-off period for high-risk transactions.
“Nevertheless, we take these security concerns very seriously and continue to monitor and ensure that our data is protected at all times,” it said.
“We would like to remind our customers to always remain vigilant and protect their information.”
Maybank also advised its customers to keep their user ID, password and personal details safe, and to be cautious of malware, WhatsApp messages, phishing sites and phone calls requesting credentials.
Earlier today, online forum Lowyat.net reported that a dark web monitoring website had found a Maybank2u database with details like names, passwords and MyKad numbers being offered for sale on a popular dark web forum for US$18,000 (RM84,200).
However, Lowyat.net said the post was subsequently deleted from the forum.
