SINGAPORE:
Former Singapore prime minister Lee Hsien Loong is confident the city-state’s relationship with Malaysia will continue to flourish under Sultan Ibrahim’s rule as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Lee, who was in Kuala Lumpur for Sultan Ibrahim’s installation at Istana Negara today, wished the king all the best in his new role.

“I am honoured to attend His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim’s installation ceremony. Sultan Ibrahim and I are old friends who have known each other for a long time,” the Singapore senior minister said on Facebook.

Lee, who served as prime minister for almost 20 years, said he last met Sultan Ibrahim in May when he came to Singapore on his first overseas state visit as king.

“He kindly extended the invite to me then,” he said.

Lee was accompanied by his wife, Ho Ching.

The Singapore Prime Minister’s Office said on Thursday that Lee was among a select group of foreign leaders invited by Sultan Ibrahim to attend the installation ceremony.

Lee is also scheduled to attend the royal banquet tonight.
