Magistrate Nadratun Naim Saidi meted out the sentence after Faizul Azlan Ridzuan, 47, changed his plea from not guilty to guilty when the case came up for re-mention today, reported Harian Metro.
On June 6, Faizul was accused of causing the feline’s death by placing it in a gunny sack before tossing it into a river along Jalan Kota Giam, Jelutong, at 8.30am on May 31.
The charge was framed under Section 428 of the Penal Code which carries a punishment of imprisonment for up to two years or a fine or both, if found guilty.
He claimed trial and the magistrate had set bail at RM6,000 in one surety.
The prosecution today was handled by deputy public prosecutor M Darrshini and the accused was represented by a defence lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation, R Puran.
Previously, a 66-second video had gone viral in which several people retrieved a gunny sack from a river and found a cat’s body in it.
