Kuih seller gets 8 months’ jail for throwing cat into river

The magistrates’ court in George Town sentenced a kuih seller to eight months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to intentionally causing the death of a cat on May 31.

Magistrate Nadratun Naim Saidi meted out the sentence after Faizul Azlan Ridzuan, 47, changed his plea from not guilty to guilty when the case came up for re-mention today, reported Harian Metro.

On June 6, Faizul was accused of causing the feline’s death by placing it in a gunny sack before tossing it into a river along Jalan Kota Giam, Jelutong, at 8.30am on May 31.

The charge was framed under Section 428 of the Penal Code which carries a punishment of imprisonment for up to two years or a fine or both, if found guilty.

He claimed trial and the magistrate had set bail at RM6,000 in one surety.

The prosecution today was handled by deputy public prosecutor M Darrshini and the accused was represented by a defence lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation, R Puran.
