Dayak Daily quoted a source as saying the new complex, located in front of the Datuk Amar Abang Haji Suleiman roundabout, will also serve as an administrative office for the Sarawak premier.
Previously, the “Rumah Sarawak” in Kuching served as the official residence of the state’s chief ministers. Its last occupant was reportedly the late Abdul Taib Mahmud.
The source said it was timely that the Sarawak premier had his own official residence again, as other states had the same for their menteris besar and chief ministers.
According to the source, premier Abang Johari Openg was keen on the new “White House” because of its proximity to the state’s administrative centre in Petra Jaya.
Three buildings have been constructed so far, including a three-storey complex which is believed to be the office. Beside the main complex are two double-storey buildings, one of which is said to be the official residence.
