PETALING JAYA:
Transport minister Loke Siew Fook’s shortness of breath while replying to questions in Parliament on Wednesday was not related to any heart attack or disease, says deputy health minister Lukanisman Awang Sauni.

Lukanisman said Loke had “fitness problems” and was left panting as he had rushed to enter the Dewan Rakyat after being stuck in traffic, Bernama reported.

He said it happened that it was Loke’s turn to answer questions from MPs as soon as he arrived.

“When he arrived at Parliament in a hurry, he immediately entered the hall and had shortness of breath while answering the oral questions.

“It is not related to a heart attack or any (other disease), it is all about the fitness of the individual. If you have been running, sometimes you can get out of breath,” he said.

Loke had to leave it to his deputy, Hasbi Habibollah, to reply to the MPs’ questions after being left gasping for breath.

He resumed his duties not long after that, answering supplementary questions from Subang MP Wong Chen.

Lukanisman urged all MPs to undergo health screening as a preventive measure.
