IPOH:
There were 850 cases of workers losing their hearing due to exposure to loud noise at work in Perak last year, according to the state occupational safety and health department (DOSH).

State human resources, health, Indian affairs and national integration committee chairman A Sivanesan said this made it the highest occupational hazard in Perak.

He said statistics showed the workers were primarily from the manufacturing and production sectors.

“In 2023, we received 905 cases related to occupational hazards and poisoning, and 94% of these cases involved hearing loss, a consistently high figure every year.

“This year, as of June, DOSH received 261 reported cases of occupational hazards and poisoning, with 95 of them involving hearing problems,” he said after launching the occupational safety and health week here today.

He added that 880 cases of occupational injury were recorded statewide last year, with 13 resulting in fatalities and 39 involving permanent disability.
