Polytech students save 2 children from drowning

They used life-saving skills learned in college, says the higher education ministry.

Two children aged about nine years were found to be struggling to stay afloat in the waters of Pulau Perhentian, a ministry statement said.
KUALA TERENGGANU:
Three polytechnic students saved two children from drowning at Pulau Perhentian, near Besut, today using basic life-saving skills learnt while studying in college.

The three students were Ahmad Danial Safwan Ahmad Safri of Politeknik Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah in Kuantan; Naufal Zahari of Politeknik Sandakan, Sabah; and Haikal Danis Nasir of Politeknik Seberang Perai, Penang.

The higher education ministry said in a statement today that the trio were undertaking group activities at the time.

When they saw the two children, aged around nine, struggling to stay afloat, they quickly leapt into action to save them.

Naufal said the two children were still breathing when brought ashore, although one of them vomited badly and was quite weak, according to the ministry.
