DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said Zahid’s remarks were proof of the latter’s commitment to efforts to strengthen political stability and ensure the country’s prosperity.
“Yes, we always hold discussions but (we) have not held an official one. We welcome the statement made, it shows Zahid’s commitment and that of BN leaders to strengthen the unity government,” he told reporters after a constituency event.
Loke said the stance taken by Zahid, who is also the Umno president, was proof of the camaraderie in the unity government and that the collaboration would continue.
Loke said in the previous state elections and the series of by-elections, the coalition’s collaboration translated well, with the understanding forged also proving crucial to ensuring victory for the candidates aligned with the government.
“We want this to continue. Zahid’s aspirations show his enthusiasm for the unity government which is extremely vital to making the government’s agenda a success.
“The PH-BN collaboration in a series of by-elections showed a good understanding, (and) that sufficiently shows that the unity government today is solid,” he said.
Zahid was previously reported to have said BN would continue to work with PH in facing the general election although BN and PH will contest using their own symbols.
