Azalina said the proposed bills will be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat in the ongoing session.
“The proposed amendments to the Penal Code will involve the introduction of specific provisions regarding the use of mule accounts,” she said.
“Among others, the amendments will criminalise the possession of another person’s payment instruments without authorisation or legitimate purpose, as well as the act of allowing one’s payment instruments to be used by others without authorisation or legitimate purpose.”
Azalina said the proposed amendments to the code are necessary to ensure the law is aligned with the rapid development and sophistication of current technology, which is often exploited by criminals.
Meanwhile, the proposed amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code will introduce new provisions that will grant the police the authority to seize funds in bank accounts suspected of being involved in criminal activities.
“The introduction of more specific legal provisions will assist enforcement agencies in performing their duties and responsibilities more effectively,” she said.
