A source from MACC said the duo, a man and woman in their 50s, were arrested between 5pm and 7pm yesterday when they went to the anti-graft agency’s headquarters to provide their statement.
“Following the arrests, the two suspects were brought to the magistrates’ court in Putrajaya today and a five-day remand order was issued by magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin,” the source said.
The source said the suspects were from the same company and were believed to have given bribes to officers of a statutory body in exchange for securing highway construction projects previously carried out by another firm.
MACC investigation division senior director Hishamuddin Hashim, when contacted, confirmed the arrests and said investigations are being carried out under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009 for receiving bribes.
Yesterday, Bernama reported that MACC had remanded two individuals, the chairman of a company and the director of another, to assist in its probe into the same case.
The chairman of the company, who is a “Datuk”, will be remanded until July 6 while the director will be remanded until July 4.
Three suspects who were previously remanded in relation to the investigation had been released on bail after their remand period expired. They included the CEO of the highway concessionaire.
