Jamaludin Jarjis’s mother, widow settle RM2bil assets claim

The parties involved met for three hours this morning and finally agreed to settle the case which has been ongoing for over five years.

The claim for matrimonial property valued at more than RM2 billion filed by Kalsom Ismail, the widow of Jamaludin Jarjis, against her four children and mother-in-law was settled amicably at the shariah high court here today.

Lawyer Nur Hidayah A Bakar, representing the mother-in-law, Aminah Abdullah, said the terms of the settlement could not be disclosed to the public.

“The parties involved met for three hours this morning and finally reached an agreement to settle the case. The terms have been recorded and endorsed by the court,” she told reporters after proceedings which were conducted in private before shariah judge Abu Suffian Abu Yaziz.

Kalsom was represented by lawyer Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar.

The 68-year-old filed the claim for the matrimonial property, which included 20 properties in Malaysia and Mecca, as well as several companies in October 2018.

Jamaludin, a former Malaysian ambassador to the US, was killed on April 4, 2015, after the helicopter he was travelling in from Pekan, Pahang to Kuala Lumpur, crashed at Kampung Sungai Pening, Semenyih, Selangor, at 4.55pm.

He was also formerly a science, technology and innovation minister and six-term Rompin MP.

Also killed were the pilot, Clifford William Fournier, former prime minister Najib Razak’s private secretary Azlin Alias, businessman Tan Huat Seang, Jamaludin’s aide Razakan Seran, and a woman known as Aidana Baizieva.
