PETALING JAYA:
The management of Mid Valley Megamall has launched investigations after a shopper yesterday claimed that parts of an escalator at the mall malfunctioned and “popped out”.

IGB Real Estate Investment Trust apologised over the incident and stressed it would ensure all precautionary measures were implemented to resolve the matter as soon as possible to prevent future occurrences.

It said it would work closely with the occupational health and safety department and their maintenance operator, Toshiba Elevator (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, to identify the cause of the malfunction.

“We are relieved there were no injuries and will continue to advise all mall patrons to exercise caution when using the escalators,” it said in a statement.

Yesterday, FMT reported that a posting on social media platform Xiaohongshu told of how the shopper heard a sudden loud noise upon stepping on the escalator and saw parts “popping out”.

The shopper and others quickly ran back down the escalator. No one was injured, according to the post in Chinese.
