MELAKA:
Forty-seven evacuees from nine families are still taking shelter at the Bukit Balai community hall at Durian Tunggal, Alor Gajah, following flash floods caused by heavy rain yesterday evening.

The state disaster management committee secretariat said the centre, which opened at 11.30pm yesterday, was still housing the evacuees from Kampung Bukit Balai and Kampung Bukit Tambun as of 7.30am today.

“The flash floods were caused by continuous heavy rain, which led to the overflow of a river and drains in low-lying residential areas,” the secretariat said in a statement.

A motorcyclist sustained injuries after being struck by a falling tree on Jalan Sungai Putat heading towards Batu Berendam.
