PETALING JAYA: A shopper experienced a frightening moment when parts of an escalator allegedly malfunctioned and “popped out” at a prominent mall in Kuala Lumpur today.
A posting on social media platform Xiaohongshu this afternoon told of how the shopper suddenly heard a loud noise upon stepping on the escalator and saw parts “popping out”.
In response, the shopper and others quickly ran back down the escalator. No one was injured, according to the post which was written in Chinese.
The shopper also reminded others to stay alert when using escalators and avoid using headphones at high volume to ensure quick reaction in emergencies.
FMT is seeking comment from the shopping mall management.
