The Indonesian immigration department said yesterday that those nabbed, including 12 women, were also suspected of misusing their visas and residence permits, AP reported.

Authorities also seized computers and mobile phones during the raid.

“They are suspected of not having documents and misusing immigration permits.

“The possibility of cybercrimes is being investigated based on the number of computers and mobile phones found at the scene,” Silmy Karim, the director-general of immigration, was quoted as saying.

Those arrested are currently being held at a detention centre in Denpasar.

Authorities also said they were investigating whether the group might have ties with international syndicates.

Meanwhile, AFP reported that Indonesian officials could not charge the detainees as the alleged crimes fell outside their jurisdiction.

They are however working closely with their counterparts, including those in Malaysia.

“Their activities target individuals outside the country, making it very difficult to meet the elements of a criminal offence in such cases,” Indonesian immigration official Safar Godam was quoted as saying.

He also said that the 103 would be deported “in the near future”.
