Its chairman, Dr S Streram, said he had reached out to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Zaliha two days ago regarding the issue.
“I texted the prime minister and Zaliha and got a response from Zaliha at 6:30am today. She has asked me to contact her secretary to set a date for a meeting over this issue soon.
“I hope the issue can be resolved because the school was built on this site in 1946,” he told reporters at SJK (T) Ladang Kinrara.
Streram criticised Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han and Seputeh MP Teresa Kok for not opposing the proposed development.
“Why didn’t they outrightly oppose the plan that was approved by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL),” he asked, adding that the relocation plan would affect the school’s kindergarten area, its music rooms and canteen.
Last week, DBKL said an amended development order had been granted to Fajarbaru Land Sdn Bhd to develop 1,604 units of Residensi Wilayah apartments on Lot 101895, Jalan Mas, Petaling district,on Sept 27, 2021.
The traffic impact assessment report submitted by the project’s consultant proposed that Jalan Mas be upgraded to four lanes because of the expected increase in traffic volume once the apartments are built.
DBKL said the proposal to upgrade Jalan Mas will involve the demolition of several structures built on road reserves, including a Hindu temple and several buildings belonging to SJK (T) Ladang Kinrara.
It said the matter was decided at a meeting on June 7, which was chaired by Zaliha and attended by Kok, Ng, Batu MP P Prabakaran, representatives of the school and the Hindu temple, government agencies, and the relevant departments at DBKL.
The land and mines department and the Subang Jaya Municipal Council have been instructed to identify suitable areas to relocate parts of the school that would be affected by the development.
In March, FMT reported that the school refused to hand over part of its land to the developer without proper compensation. The developer requested 3,000 sq ft of the school’s compound for road expansion, offering RM50,000 in return.
