10 days on, search continues for soldier at Sarawak-Brunei border

PETALING JAYA:
The army’s search for a soldier who went missing during an operation at the Malaysia-Brunei border in Limbang, Sarawak, continues 10 days after the private disappeared.

The army said the search-and-rescue operation for Syafiq Hilmi Abd Halim reached its 10th day today, with air and ground personnel still looking for the soldier.

In a statement, it said it is aided by the air force, the police, the survey and mapping department, as well as Brunei’s armed forces.

Syafiq was deployed as a security escort for the survey and mapping department to conduct demarcation and surveying in Ulu Tutong and Bebuloh in Limbang from June 11 to Sept 2.

He was discovered missing by his group leader at about noon on June 18 about 2km from the survey site.
