PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a man suspected of accepting bribes in connection with a Klang Valley highway project.

This follows yesterday’s arrest of eight people, including the CEO of a highway concessionaire and two other top company officials, in relation to two projects totalling RM11 billion in the Klang Valley.

An MACC source said the suspect, who is in his 40s, is accused of soliciting and receiving bribes from multiple companies in exchange for appointing them to take over the construction of the highway project, previously handled by another company.

“The ninth suspect was arrested at the MACC headquarters while giving a statement at around 7pm yesterday.

“The total amount of corruption involving all suspects is still under investigation. However, the combined value of these two highway projects is nearly RM11 billion,” said the source.

The latest suspect will remain under remand until Friday.

When contacted, MACC deputy chief commissioner Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the arrests and said the probe is being carried out under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
