PETALING JAYA:
Selangor FC will appeal the Malaysian Football League’s (MFL) decision to impose a RM100,000 fine and deduction of three points on the club for skipping the Charity Shield match against Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) last month.

The club reiterated that it had requested for the match to be postponed following the “heinous” acid attack on its forward Faisal Halim on May 5 and several “incidents involving other professional football players”.

Selangor FC said it only withdrew from the game with JDT after its request for a postponement was turned down by MFL.

“The club will appeal the decision and explore all available avenues,” it said in a statement.

Earlier today, MFL said Selangor FC would have to compensate JDT and the league for the financial losses resulting from their withdrawal from the May 10 season-opener at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri.

It said the RM100,000 fine, however, would be donated to charity.

Last month, Terengganu FC winger Akhyar Rashid was attacked by two robbers upon returning from training, while Faisal was left in critical condition after being splashed with acid at a shopping mall.

JDT midfielder Safiq Rahim, meanwhile, had his car windscreen smashed by unknown assailants.

Police are still investigating the cases.
