Sungai Bakap by-election returning officer Khairulnizam Hashim said this was because all the 57 police personnel under the state constituency have registered as postal voters.
“There will be no early voting as all the early voters have applied for postal voting,” Khairulnizam told Bernama today.
He said the EC will issue their postal ballot papers for them to collect at 2.30pm tomorrow.
The Sungai Bakap by-election on July 6 will see a straight fight between Pakatan Harapan candidate Joohari Ariffin, 60, a former lecturer at Institut Aminuddin Baki in Kedah, and Perikatan Nasional’s Abidin Ismail, 56, a logistics executive.
Abidin is a former aide to Nor Zamri Latiff, whose death on May 24 caused the state seat to fall vacant.
In the Penang state election last August, Nor Zamri, who was also the Nibong Tebal PAS chief, defeated PH candidate Nurhidayah Che Rose in Sungai Bakap by a majority of 1,563 votes in a straight fight.
There are 39,279 registered voters in Sungai Bakap, consisting of 39,222 regular voters and the 57 police personnel.
