MIC president SA Vigneswaran announced this after nominations closed at 1pm today.
“As he has the support of the party’s majority, Saravanan is once again the deputy president of MIC,” Bernama quoted Vigneswaran, who had been re-elected unopposed in March, as saying at the MIC headquarters here today.
The nominations involved the party’s posts of deputy president, three vice-presidents and 21 members of the central working committee.
The three vice-president’s posts will see a contest among four candidates, after incumbents T Mohan, T Murugiah and M Asojan were challenged by MIC education committee chairman R Nelson.
During the 77th MIC general assembly in November last year, the party unanimously passed a resolution barring any contest for the posts of president and deputy president in the 2024 party elections.
Saravanan had said the resolution was passed after several motions at the state level, including in Pahang and Perak, that both posts be uncontested at the party polls.
