In a statement, the Tasek Gelugor MP said he hoped Johari would ensure the uniform implementation of rules governing the state assembly and the Dewan Rakyat.
Earlier today, Kelantan state assembly speaker Amar Abdullah declared Azizi Abu Naim’s Nenggiri state seat as vacant after being notified by Bersatu that his party membership had been terminated.
“For me, this sets a precedent. If an assemblyman’s seat can be vacated at the state level in Kelantan, there is no reason a parliamentarian’s seat cannot be vacated at the federal level in the Dewan Rakyat,” said Wan Saiful.
“According to the (Kelantan) state constitution and the Federal Constitution, it is clear that when someone ceases to be a member of a party, his seat falls vacant.
“There may be a serious constitutional crisis if this precedent is not respected or followed.”
Stating that he was confident Johari would want to uphold the legislative body’s independence from the executive body, he also said he was sure that the Speaker understood that “he had no choice” but to declare the six MPs’ seats in the Dewan Rakyat vacant.
On June 7, Johari told Bernama that he had not received any official notice from any party about vacant seats involving the six Bersatu MPs who had their party membership revoked recently.
A week later, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said the party would notify Johari soon that the six MPs were no longer party members.
Azizi, who is also the Gua Musang MP, is among the six Bersatu MPs who have pledged support for Anwar and the unity government.
The others are Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).
Selat Klang assemblyman Abdul Rashid Asari had also declared support for the Selangor unity government led by menteri besar Amirudin Shari.
