Cops launch probe after infant suffers broken arm, brain injury at babysitter’s

Police say the girl is in stable condition and receiving treatment at Kemaman Hospital.

Kemaman police say the mother received a call an hour after she sent the child to the babysitter’s house.
PETALING JAYA:
Police have launched an investigation after a five-month-old baby girl suffered a broken arm and bleeding in the brain while under the care of a babysitter at Taman Banggol Indah near Kemaman, Terengganu, yesterday.

Kemaman police chief Hanyan Ramlan was quoted by Utusan Malaysia as saying the child’s mother had sent her to the babysitter’s house at about 10am.

“After about an hour, the mother received a call from the 29-year-old babysitter who informed her that her child was unwell and had a fever.

“The mother rushed to the babysitter’s home and found her child in a weak state. She brought her child to Kemaman Hospital for treatment,” he said.

Hanyan said further examination revealed the baby had suffered bleeding in her brain. The attending doctor filed a police report at about 1.30pm.

“The baby is in stable condition and still receiving treatment at Kemaman Hospital.

“We are investigating the cause of the injuries and will investigate if there is any element of abuse or criminality,” he said, adding that the investigation falls under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001.

He said the police would record statements from the child’s guardian, babysitter and several others.
