PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested an insurance agent who allegedly threatened to kill his client if the latter cancelled his policy.

Barat Daya district police chief Kamarul Rizal Jenal told FMT that the agent surrendered himself at a police station in Penang yesterday, the same day the police report was lodged by the victim.

“We have opened an investigation under Section 507 of the Penal Code,” he said in a brief text message.

Section 507 of the Penal Code deals with criminal intimidation by anonymous communication.

According to the police report sighted by FMT, the victim contacted the insurance agent to cancel a policy as he could no longer afford it and was no longer interested in continuing it.

The 28-year-old said his agent threatened to kill him if he cancelled the policy and warned of even harming him if he visited the insurance company’s office to cancel the policy.

“He (the insurance agent) sent these threats through voice notes in WhatsApp,” the victim said when contacted.

“He said only three months remained to complete the one-year term (of the policy). He said if I cancelled the policy, his income would be affected.”
