
In a Facebook post, Sanusi’s press secretary Muhamad Mat Yakim said various matters were discussed towards realising the airport project, which is one of the components of the Kedah Aerotropolis airport and technology city in Kuala Muda.
No further information was available on the meeting which came a day after Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd signed an agreement on opening a new air cargo route between Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Henan province’s capital Zhengzhou.
The Chinese company currently manages Zhengzhou airport, which is one of China’s largest air cargo hubs and air cargo terminals in Budapest and Leipzig. The company has said it has plans to expand in Asia, particularly Malaysia.
Last month, transport minister Loke Siew Fook told the Dewan Rakyat that two feasibility studies on Kulim airport had been submitted and would be studied by consultants drawing up the national airports strategic plan.
In March, Sanusi said that the state needed the approval of the transport ministry before it could proceed with land acquisition works for the airport project.
