According to Sinar Harian, judge Anas Mahadzir fixed the same date for the AGC’s decision on representations submitted by distribution company Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd’s three directors.
Deputy public prosecutor Khairul Azreem Mamat had asked the court for a later date for the prosecution to decide on the matter as the AGC was still studying the representations.
Rajpal Singh, the lawyer for Chai and Loh, raised no objections to the matter.
Chai, the founder and executive chairman of KK Supermart & Superstore Sdn Bhd, and Loh submitted representations to the AGC last month over their charge of intentionally wounding the religious feelings of others.
They are also being represented by lawyers David Gurupatham, RS Sodhi, Theng Book and Lau Yi Leong.
After proceedings today, Sodhi told reporters that Chai and Loh, who is also a KK Mart director, are hoping to have the charge dropped.
On March 26, Chai and Loh, as directors of KK Mart, pleaded not guilty to the charge of intentionally wounding the religious feelings of others over the sale of socks bearing the word “Allah”.
The charge was framed under Section 298 of the Penal Code which provides for a prison sentence of up to a year, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Xin Jian Chang’s directors were charged with conspiring to intentionally wounding the religious sensitivities of Muslims at the same place, time and date.
