In a statement released today, the council referred to a video uploaded to TikTok, in which preacher Firdaus Wong reportedly advised a man about how to handle requests from teenagers wishing to convert to Islam.

“We call on all MPs and ministers to ensure that this plan of converting minors is stopped immediately and action is taken against Firdaus Wong.

“This immoral, unconstitutional and illegal plan to convert minors to Islam goes against the fundamental liberties stated in the Federal Constitution,” the council said, adding that the constitution stipulates that a child’s religion is the decision of his or her parents.

The council went on to say that encouraging a child to utter the “Kalimah Shahadah”, which is spoken at the point of conversion, is a breach of Article 12(4) because parental consent was not obtained.

Article 12(4) of the Federal Constitution provides that the religion of a person under the age of 18 shall be decided by his parent or guardian.

“A parent would be devastated to learn of their child’s secret conversion.

“Schools are places where knowledge is imparted but if schools indulge in the practice of converting minors, then there is no longer any safe place for our children,” the council said.
