
The source said the party wants to introduce new faces in the nation’s political landscape to offer Malaysians a “fresher voice”.
“The party will be led by individuals from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities,” the source told FMT. “They (party’s leaders) are also progressive youths aligned with the nation’s aspirations of promoting cultural diversity.”
Political analyst Azmi Hassan said he expects the new party to face challenges in positioning itself. “It’s difficult to succeed alone,” said Azmi, a fellow at the National Professors Council.
“Take PKR for example, which represents all ethnicities, it had to join forces with DAP and Amanah to succeed (in Pakatan Harapan). The Malaysian political scenario requires larger parent parties (coalitions).”
The Election Commission website shows there are 61 parties registered to contest elections as of 2022.
