Both Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin and Tan-Thinaah are ranked world No 13 in their respective categories.
Malaysia’s medal hopes in the men’s singles were dashed when Lee Zii Jia and Leong Jun Hao were knocked out in the last-eight today. World No 7 Zii Jia lost 21-16, 21-17 to Thailand’s world No 8 Kunlavut Vitidsarn while world No 32 Jun Hao fell 21-11, 21-12 to China’s world No 4 Li Shifeng.
Wei Chong-Kai Wun gave Malaysia something to cheer about in the men’s doubles after beating Taiwan’s Lu Ching-yao-Yang Po-han 21-17, 18-21, 21-10.
Wei Chong-Kai Wun will face Indonesia’s Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Reza Pahlevi Isfahani after they overcame Lee Jhe-huei-Yang Po-hsuan 21-17, 14-21, 21-16.
Earlier today, Kian Meng-Pei Jing moved into the last four of the mixed doubles after beating the South Korean pair of Kim Won-ho and Jeong Na-eun 21-8, 21-19.
Kian Meng-Pei Jing will take on China’s world No 5 Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin for a place in the final after they overcame world No 2 Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping 21-17, 11-21, 21-16.
