PETALING JAYA:
A director with a local council has been detained on suspicion of soliciting and accepting RM20,000 in bribes from contractors as an incentive to approve building renovations without going through the proper procedure.

A source at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said the bribes were to also expedite the approvals from the local government, which is in Selangor.

“The suspect, who is in his 40s, is believed to have committed the offences from 2019 to 2024. The funds are believed to have been transmitted into his personal account.”

He was arrested around 6pm yesterday after giving a statement to the graft busters at the Selangor MACC headquarters. He has also been remanded until Friday.

Selangor MACC director Alias Salim confirmed the arrest when contacted.
