According to Father Lawrence Ng, the parish priest, the car then drove straight into one of the trees within the church compound.
“No one was hurt but the vehicle was severely damaged. The driver appeared unhurt,” he said in a statement.
Ng added that the police and the fire and rescue department were at the scene immediately after an emergency call was made.
“The police then directed the driver to be taken to the hospital to be examined,” he said, adding that he had lodged a police report.
When contacted, Petaling Jaya deputy police chief Hussin Sollehuddin Zolkifly confirmed the incident and said that an investigation paper has been opened under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
He said the driver, a male in his 30s, claimed that he was travelling from Subang Jaya to Kelana Jaya when he took a wrong turn and lost control, causing the vehicle to enter the church premises.
“The driver sustained spinal injuries and was initially sent to the Kelana Jaya Medical Center before being transferred to University Malaya Medical Centre for further treatment,” he added.
The driver has since been discharged and has provided the police with a statement regarding the incident, Hussin said, adding that no arrests have been made at this time.
Blood and urine samples have been collected and will be sent to the chemistry department for analysis.
