Petaling Jaya magistrate Azura Mohd Saad issued the remand order upon the application of the police this morning, Sinar Harian reported.
The couple, both aged 28, were arrested in Puncak Alam yesterday morning.
Selangor police chief Hussein Omar confirmed the arrests with FMT earlier today.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Zayn had been reported missing a day earlier, on Dec 5 last year.
Previous reports had said the autopsy results revealed signs of self-defence wounds, while the cause of death was from injuries to the neck believed to be caused by strangulation.
On March 21, Hussein had denied that police were slow to act in investigating the murder. He said they had worked tirelessly to locate Zayn the day he was reported missing until the discovery of his body the next day.
He said police had looked at various angles, including technical aspects, to solve the case. This includes using internet protocol addresses detected at the location where the body was found, as well as sending fingerprints and DNA samples to Interpol.
Hussein also said no suspects had been identified until that time.
In January, Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Shuhaily Zain said police had recorded the statements of more than 200 people in connection with the case.
He said police had scanned both apartment blocks where Zayn was staying, describing it as a “crowded place”, and that they would not stop investigating.
