Various parties have highlighted the possibility of preferential treatment and conflict of interest in the selection of Asia Mobility Technologies Sdn Bhd (Asia Mobiliti), which is headed by Yeoh’s husband, M Ramachandran, as one of two firms to run a nine-month proof of concept (POC) for a demand-responsive transit (DRT) project.
“No, because that has nothing to do with the youth and sports ministry, and this is a youth and sports ministry event,” Yeoh told reporters when asked to comment on the issue today.
She was speaking to reporters at the youth and sports ministry here after launching the Sport Satellite Account 2022, an accounting system that provides detailed information on the sports industry and measures its contribution to the nation’s economy.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Azam Baki has said the anti-graft agency will not probe the awarding of the DRT project as there was no link between Yeoh’s ministry and the Selangor government.
“It was the state who decided on the matter. It was the (Selangor) menteri besar who decided on it. It was not her decision,” he said at a meeting with representatives from the online media on Tuesday.
Yesterday, menteri besar Amirudin Shari said Asia Mobiliti and Badanbas Coach Sdn Bhd were selected for the POC, which ends in July, as they were approved by the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad).
“Even if we were to conduct an open tender, only two companies at that time had permission to do the POC … so questions about whether there should have been an open tender are not valid,” he told a press conference at the Seri Selangor Golf Club in Petaling Jaya.
Amirudin also said he is open to disclosing the complete details of Asia Mobiliti’s appointment and minutes of the meetings involving Apad.
Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil also said the DRT project has not been awarded to Asia Mobiliti as claimed by certain parties.
Speaking to reporters after Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting, Fahmi said Asia Mobiliti had only been appointed to run a POC for a nine-month period.
