PETALING JAYA:
Stern action will be taken if it is confirmed that an officer in the Johor regent’s police escort team assaulted a disabled e-hailing driver at a hotel recently, says the nation’s top cop.

In a statement, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said several officers involved in the incident will be summoned to Bukit Aman to assist in the investigation.

“This is to ensure that a holistic investigation is held and that all parties involved provide their statements.

“The priority in every investigation is to ensure that no offenders escape the law. There will be no compromise in taking strict action on any officer found guilty,” he said.

Razarudin also said the police were committed to preserving their integrity while ensuring justice and protecting the public, including those who are disabled.

Earlier, Johor regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim urged the police to thoroughly investigate the incident, which occurred at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur on May 28.

He maintained that he did not condone “any illegal action or intimidation”, and called for the victim to be given justice.

Tunku Ismail also said there was a “movement” to disparage the royal institution through this incident, adding that linking the actions of the security personnel with him or the royal institution was uncalled for.

While the victim had lodged a police report over the incident, Kuala Lumpur police said he filed a second report several hours later stating that the matter was due to a “misunderstanding” and had been settled.
